Nupur Balain (she/her) is an investment management Research Associate on the buy-side covering global technology stocks at William Blair. Her role involves sourcing and analyzing technology stocks across industries and geographies to find potential investment opportunities for the firm’s different portfolios. Work involves researching companies and industries, meeting with management teams, building financial models, attending conferences, and writing research reports. Her previous role was as a sell-side equity research analyst covering small and mid-cap U.S. software companies at Morningstar. Nupur was in charge of finding investment ideas for external clients and maintaining updated recommendations on the stocks under her coverage. Nupur is currently pursuing her MBA part time at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and aims to get concentrations in finance and entrepreneurship within the program.

Advice to Students:

Be curious and proactive—your career path doesn’t have to be a straight line. Don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone to explore different opportunities and find the right fit. Focus on networking intentionally—you never know what doors may open. Show interest in others’ experiences and go in prepared with thoughtful questions. These conversations are about not only expanding your knowledge, but also about leaving a lasting impression.
