Michelle Stein (she/her) has worked for over eleven years at FTI Consulting as a forensic accountant. Her work has included supporting litigation arising from matrimonial and business disputes, bankruptcy investigations and clawback actions, funds tracing and forfeiture matters, investigations of misuse of funds, and personal injury/trafficking matters. Throughout her career, Ms. Stein has served as a member of the team supporting the court-appointed Trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities and his counsel, and has provided pro bono forensic accounting services in divorce proceedings through her work with Her Justice. Last year, she had the opportunity to testify at a deposition in a lawsuit regarding breaches in the use and oversight over charitable trust funds. In addition to her Vassar degree in Art History, she obtained a B.S. in Accounting from Hunter College, and is a Certified Public Accountant (NY), a Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified in Financial Forensics, and a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist.

Stay curious about anything you are working on – if it relates to the news, follow it; if there’s anything you don’t understand, look into it (research, or ask an expert colleague!). It helps keep you connected to the critical thinking skills you’ve developed at Vassar, and your interest in digging in will distinguish you from others.
