Kevin Fernandez (he/him) began his career in the financial sector immediately after graduating from Vassar with a degree in mathematics, where he managed databases and reconciled data as an accountant. While working full-time, he pursued a master’s in data science in the evenings, which led him to transition into the IT data team at a reinsurance/insurance company. Currently serving as a Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer, Kevin leverages a broad range of skills: data engineering to deliver automated cloud solutions, data analysis for building dashboards and uncovering critical business trends, and data science for developing and managing AI-driven models. In this role, he collaborates across departments and contributes to diverse projects spanning Microsoft and Amazon technology stacks. His efforts have also helped foster a company-wide community dedicated to advancing a more data-driven culture.

Advice to Students: 

Entering the job market can feel overwhelming, especially right out of school. Keep applying, build specialized and communication skills, and use your connections to stand out. Once you land a role, whether an internship or a full-time position, focus on making company connections, learning continuously, and giving your best to every task. You can’t predict where life will take you, but you can choose what to learn and how to grow. With purpose and passion, you’ll gain experiences that shape your path and help you become who you want to be.
