Hannah Schneewind (she/her) enjoys playing a variety of roles in elementary education. She studied education and psychology at Vassar and began her career teaching first and second grade in Brooklyn, New York. Her professional positions include being a classroom teacher, curriculum writer, adjunct professor, keynote speaker, tutor, and national and international literacy consultant. Hannah is the co-author of Trusting Readers: Powerful Practices for Independent Reading (Heinemann) and of the upcoming Readers Matters: Powerful Practices for Inspiring Confident Reading Identities (Stenhouse). In addition to her work with students and teachers, she partners with Read to Grow and Reading is Fundamental, organizations that promote literacy for all children. Additionally, she volunteers as a court-appointed special advocate for children in the foster system, and she volunteers for Vassar by interviewing prospective students.

Advice for Students:

While you are in college, take every class that sparks your interest, sign up for classes in subjects about which you know nothing, and participate in every activity that you are curious about. Do not worry about whether a particular class or club seems related to your major or whether it has a practical application in the world. Every experience you have in college becomes part of who you are and makes you a more empathetic person. Approach life after college in the same way. Who knows where your curiosity will lead you?
