Cindy Katri ’84

Company / School: Ryder

Position / Degree: Director of Strategic Insights

Overview

Director of Strategic Insights, Ryder
New Milford, NJ

  • BA, English, Vassar College

Cindy Katri (she/her) is Director of Strategic Insights, Parcel Solutions at Ryder E-Commerce. At Ryder, Cindy is responsible for both analytics and billing for their 3PL (third-party logistics) division, which fulfills direct-to-consumer packages for a wide range of businesses. A strange road led her from an English major at Vassar with a concentration in creative writing to multiple jobs in analytics and strategic insights. Currently involved in the fast-paced world of e-commerce shipping, her prior careers have included the business side of magazine publishing and analytics for international mail services, with a few other careers along the way. Regardless of the specific job, Cindy has always viewed her main function and strongest ability in taking massive amounts of complicated data and boiling it down to a few simple statements, telling an easily understood and actionable story—both for the good of her company and for the clients she supports.

Advice to Students:

Be adventurous, especially while you have the least responsibilities. Be daring and confident. If you don’t ask for it (the job, the pay), you won’t receive it. Understand the day-to-day responsibilities of the job you are offered and ensure they jibe with not only what you are interested in, but what will help you grow. Show your true self when you interview. It will differentiate you and also help your employer make the best decision. Try and try again without losing patience. If you do not get the job you thought you wanted, it is likely that the person doing the hiring understood it was not the job for you. That job will come.
