Nora Jensen (she/her) is an Associate Analyst at NERA Economic Consulting based in their New York City office. As a part of NERA’s securities and finance business line, her work focuses on applying economic, statistical, and financial principles to securities litigation cases. Typical types of analyses often include tests for market efficiency, event studies, price impacts, and damage estimations, to name a few. In addition to this quantitative aspect of the job, her daily work also includes a strong qualitative element, such as conducting market research and assisting in the writing of expert reports. Nora finds the liberal arts experience and the breadth of education she received at Vassar to be incredibly helpful in this dynamic work environment. As a former track athlete at Vassar, fitness is still an important part of her life outside of work, as is exploring New York City!

Advice to Students: 

Take advantage of the ability to take a wide breadth of coursework at Vassar (even if you’re a STEM major, having strong writing skills is still critical!) Don’t be afraid to take classes in a new department or in an area that may not necessarily “make sense” for what you want to do career-wise. While it’s okay to not know what your ideal career path looks like yet, start looking into industries that might interest you sooner rather than later. Being aware of the internship application timelines for different industries is important so you don’t miss the application cycle. Cherish and make the most out of the four years you have in Poughkeepsie because Vassar is truly such a special place that offers incredible opportunities if you seek them out.
