Jade Wong-Baxter is a Literary Agent at the New York City-based Frances Goldin Literary Agency, representing clients who write literary/upmarket fiction and narrative nonfiction. She works with writers at every stage of the book publishing process: from concept development, proposal preparation, and manuscript editing to publisher submission, contract negotiation, publicity, and marketing. Her client list includes award-nominated memoirists, novelists, journalists, and cultural critics. Jade has been in book publishing for eight years, since graduating from Vassar in 2017. During her time at Vassar, she interned at Folio Literary Management, W. W. Norton, and Writers House. After graduation, she was first an assistant at the literary agency Massie & McQuilkin, and then moved to the Frances Goldin Agency in 2021.

Advice to Students:

Don’t be afraid to reach out to people for informational interviews—a lot of us are happy to have a quick chat about our career field’s benefits and drawbacks, and to advise students who might be interested in pursuing a similar path. I remember when I was a student, being very hesitant to email anyone I didn’t know and ask for advice, thinking that I was overstepping my boundaries by asking for any of their time. But now, I really enjoy chatting with students interested in my job, and happy to pay it forward because I remember how useful those interviews were when I was starting out.
